Not one, but two seahorses together! When mating they swim together over the reef with their tails entwined before the female deposits the eggs in a ´kangaroo pounch´ on the male, who then looks after them till they hatch. This week we saw another one in a differnt dive area as well. - #divinggrancanaria, #buceo canarias, #seahorse

Golden-tail moray (Gymnothorax miliaris). It is very unusual to find these during the day. They are rare in Gran Canaria and there is only a small population in Arinaga (2-4?) and they are generally more active at night, hence the Spanish name ´Morena de lunares´ - the moray of the moons. - #divinggrancanaria, #buceo canarias, #morayeel

Sadly, this Spiny Pufferfish (Chilomycterus espinoso) has a serious injury over the eye. One expert put it down to an unexpected collision with a rocky outcrop, while another felt it was symptomatic of a cancerous growth. Either way we will try to locate him (or her) again and update you if we can. - #spinypufferfish, #divinggrancanaria, #divingArinaga, #buceoArinaga

Here is one of my favourite pictures that I have taken over the last few days 馃憣 The Canaries are normally considered a ´volcanic´ resort rather than a ´coral´ area, but in the last few years the frequency and size of many corals have increased. This example of Yellow Coral (Leptogorgonia viminalis) first appeared in 2020 and is now about 15cm tall. -- 2023/03/27 in Arinaga Tags: -- Delivered by Feed43 service
